White County Public Library Accessibility
The White County Public Libraries strive to make educational materials, reading materials, music, audiobooks, magazines, periodicals, and more available to the residents of White County. In this effort we hope to help make these materials more accessible to our patrons that live with blindness, visual impairments, print disabilities, or physical impairments or disabilities that make reading or accessing the library difficult. The WCPL Cleveland also has wheelchair accessible doors and an accessible computer station with an adjustable-height table, JAWS screen reader, NVDA screen reader, and ZoomText for our visually impaired patrons.
GLASS (Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services)
“GLASS supports accessible library services in Georgia by promoting the use of assistive technology and by providing accessible reading materials to those who, due to a disability, are unable to read standard print.”
GLASS provides free audio players to qualified patrons. They offer a variety of books and magazines. Materials are sent directly to patrons’ homes and are returned with prepaid mailing labels. Patrons can choose their materials online, by calling GLASS, or by choosing an auto-select program that sends them materials based on genre and author preferences. The audio players are lent to patrons for as long as they need and there are never any charges, even if the players are lost or damaged. Patrons owning a smartphone or tablet can also download talking books to their device
NFB Newsline
NFB Newsline is a free service offered to those in Georgia who are unable to read newsprint due to print disability, blindness, or visual impairments. Over 400 news publications and magazines are available. The service can be accessed with a telephone, a free mobile app, on demand emails, portable players, and their secure website, nfbnewsline.org.
Georgia Relay
The State of Georgia offers Georgia Relay as a free public service that makes communicating by phone accessible for everyone, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have difficulty speaking. Georgia Relay is available 24 hours a day and can be used with a regular phone by dialing 711 or with a variety of free devices provided by Georgia Relay. Visit georgiarelay.org for more information.
Georgia Radio Reading Service
Georgia Radio Reading Service is a free radio service available to all Georgians. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for those who are blind, visually impaired, or have difficulty with the printed word. Volunteer readers record and air many programs monthly that include newspapers, popular books, and magazines. The programs are broadcast 24 hours a day and can be accessed with a special radio GaRRS can provide, through an online webstream at garrs.org, by telephone, or via mobile app.
